FEMUN: FEEDBACK
- What are your impressions from the conference in general?
I enjoyed the experience of taking part in the FEMUN very much. Unlike the majority of the delegates, to that date I had not taken part in the events conducted by the Model United Nations of the Russian Far East (MUNRFE), so everything was new to me. Since the very beginning, I was impressed by the scale of the event.
About 100 participants, best conference halls of the University, as well as workshops conducted by lecturers from the real UN-related organizations, such as the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Then, when the actual work in the committee began, without any exaggeration I felt like a real diplomat who cooperates with his fellow colleagues to find a common solution to global issues. Therefore, if you want not only to improve your English skills but to also broaden your general knowledge and immerse into the atmosphere of the UN, participating in the FEMUN is a great decision to make.
2. What did you feel when you got to know what country you were going to represent?
Frankly speaking, I was surprised to represent the Dominican Republic. However, when our team started writing the country profile, I realized that the state had many advantages. Moreover, during the FEMUN and like in the real United Nations, delegates always seek to find a common solution, which means that everyone can stand for his or her position regardless of the size or any other features of the country represented. Nevertheless, it is always crucial to be accountable and be aware of what your country would or would not do in real life.
3. How does the FEMUN differ from other MUN conferences?
For the moment, I took part only in two Conferences conducted by our Organization, in which I was a delegate to different committees. Therefore, I do not have a vast experience to point at substantial differences. However, during the FEMUN I indeed walk in his diplomat 's shoes and deliver speeches on behalf of the whole nation as due to the format of the conference participants have an opportunity to truly engage in the flow of debates and even moderate it.
